Fellowships
Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development, L.L.C. (J&JPRD) will consider requests for support for fellowships -- awards that enable individual medical professionals (or professionals in training) to pursue study in his or her fields or to introduce them to related fields. A fellowship often advances, synthesizes, or enlarges the recipient's special area of interest and may enable the recipient to study in a different area that will extend his or her competence. Fellowships may relate to activities such as training, further study, or research. Please note that, beginning October 3, 2008, J&JPRD will begin posting quarterly reports on our public company website that display information regarding all fellowships we provide. This disclosure will include the name of your organization, the monetary value of the payment made in the quarter we provided it and the purpose(s) for the funding. Please use the following links for more information on requirements and process steps to follow when requesting funding for a fellowship. Requirements: The fellowship must be in an area or field of study of legitimate interest to J&JPRD. All provisions for fellowships must be memorialized in an executed agreement. Grants may be provided only to organizations and institutions that have bona fide fellowship committees and valid selection processes and criteria to determine the final recipient(s). Documentation of the selection process must be provided to the company. Members of the fellowship committee or their family members cannot be possible recipients of fellowships. The institution must have sole and complete control over the fellowship program, including the selection of the recipient fellow. Grants may not be tied to an institution's purchase of any products or services from the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies. If the recipient organization requires that the individual fellow present at the J&JPD as part of the fellowship, this must be documented in the Agreement. The amount of funding must be commensurate with activities to be performed by the Fellow, local cost of living, and other expenses not considered ordinary overhead expenses of the recipient institution. Funding to an institution may be applied to travel costs for the recipient Fellow to attend major educational conferences consistent with the AMA guidelines, the PhRMA code, and other related guidelines. Fair market value for the anticipated expenses covered by a requested fellowship must be documented in an itemized budget attached to the original request from the recipient institution. Fellowships play an important role in ensuring that residents are fully trained in the latest medical procedures and technologies. J&JPRD generally may provide support to teaching institutions for their medical education programs by sponsoring fellowships. Recognizing that advances in certain procedures or technologies may be developed outside the traditional teaching institution environment, J&JPRD may also, under certain circumstances, sponsor fellowships associated with medical societies or associations, or cooperative groups, provided these programs meet the considerations identified below. J&JPRD does not provide fellowships to underwrite a recipient organization's ordinary overhead costs or routine business expenses. J&JPRD does not provide "unrestricted" funding to support fellowships. Remaining funds not applied to the approved fellowship may not be applied by the recipient organization to support its routine business activities. Any and all unused funds must be returned by the recipient organization to J&JPRD. J&JPRD does not provide fellowships contingent on the use of, or as an inducement to use, products or services from the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies. How To Apply: A multi-disciplinary committee will review all requests for funding for fellowships. The Committee must approve all requests for compliance with all applicable policies and guidelines and for funding prior to a commitment to a requesting organization. All requests must be submitted at least two months prior to the award of the fellowship in order to ensure sufficient time for processing and to enable a response prior to any deadline for Company acknowledgment in any printed materials. J&JPRD contact information and a summary of the documents / information required to be submitted at the time of request can be found here. |
